    NACA confirms 306,489 tested positive for HIV in 2021

    The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA),  has confirmed over 306,489 people tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in 2021.

    National HIV Testing Day is celebrated annually on June 27, a day that was first observed on June 27, 1995. To encourage people to get tested and know their HIV status.

    According to Punch, the data obtained shows that the 306,489 people who were confirmed positive are among the 7,647,637 people that were tested for HIV and received results in 2021.

    The press which was released in Abuja on Monday, by the Director-General of NACA, Dr Gombo Aliyu, stated that “The earlier someone is diagnosed as living with HIV and initiated on life-saving treatment, the better chances of controlling the virus and preventing the spread.

    “People can live long and healthy lives with early detection of HIV and proper treatment and care.”

    “We can end and prevent the spread of HIV if we know our HIV status. Testing is the gateway to HIV services,” he said.
