    Peter Obi to announce running mate as Doyin Okupe withdraws

    The former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Doyin Okupe has withdrawn his position as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

    Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe, announced this via his Twitter page today (Thursday). The tweet read: “This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.A replacement will be announced by d national chairman of d party shortly.I feel greatly blessed to hv been part of the foundation of success 4 the LP

    Wakadaily reported that Okupe while speaking on Channels TV, on Friday 17 June, noted that he will be the placeholder of the Labour Party and that his name has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the party.

    “We believe that the Labour Party coming to rule Nigeria is essentially going to be about young Nigerians, “I’m willing to put down my back so young people can come to the top,” he said.

    The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, while speaking on Arise TV yesterday stated the reason why he prefers younger tuning mate.

    He said: “I prefer younger people who have a lot to offer rather than recycling old hands. I want a competent person and I am building a formidable team.

    “We’re talking to a quite number of people and Hakeem Baba-Ahmed is a capable hand. But I wish I can work with somebody who is more younger.”
