Nigerians don’t believe I’m on the same level as American artistes – Burna Boy

    Published By:

Award-winning Afrobeat star, Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has bemoaned that his compatriots rate him below American artistes.

The Grammy-winning Nigerian musician said because he does not talk like an American artiste, many Nigerians think he is not on the same level as them.

The “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” hitmarker lamented how Nigerians often rate up-coming American artistes above him.

The ‘African Giant’ as fondly called stated this in an interview with Los Angeles Times.

Burna Boy said his forthcoming album, ‘I Told Them’, is his response to critics who have attempted to degrade him, both in the early stages of his career and now.

The singer said: “To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it. They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artist.”
