The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday met with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in his Abuja residence.
Atiku had defeated Wike at the party’s president primary which held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Saturday night at Abuja. Atiku polled 371 votes while Wike scored 237 votes.
He was accompanied by his campaign team and retinue of aides was received by Wike whom he described as a committed party member and worthy opponent.
The meeting was also attended by former Ekiti State Governor and PDP Presidential aspirant, Ayodele Fayose, among other People Domcratic Party (PDP) chieftains.
“It is part of his engagement to get all party members on board as we prepare for the 2023 General elections.
According to report, that delegates were surprised when the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who was one of the front runners for the Presidential ticket, stepped down and directed his supporters to vote Atiku as a result of what sources said was due to the intervention of the Northern elders, who were pushing for a Northern consensus aspirant.
“He went to personal appeal to Wike like he did with Tambuwual earlier to thank them for the roles they all played in ensuring that the party had an exemplary primary.
“The candidate and the party are on same page in the quest to redeem Nigeria from the mess the current APC-led regime has thrown us all in.”
