Gunmen kill 5 people, 2 policemen in Benue 

The Benue Police Command confirmed the killing of five people, a university lecturer two policemen with two others in a separate attack by gunmen in two different Local Government Areas of Benue State on Thursday.

The attack happened at Yelwata and Jootar Mbaterem, in the Guma and Ukum Area.

According to reports, the two policemen were on duty at Yelewata in Guma LGA, the gunmen shoot them and carried their guns along on Thursday.

The second attack took place at Jootar Mbaterem in Mbayenge council ward in the Ukum LGA, they killed three people including a lecturer.

The unfortunate incident took place around 7:00 pm when three friends sat at a drinking joint close to a Federal Quarantine Check Point when a Bajaj Motorcycle came carrying a lady and two guys. One of them shot at the people and zoomed off,” a local told our correspondent on the phone.”

“I received information that two policemen died in an operation at Makurdi-Lafia road but I am yet to receive details please.”

The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed this to a newsman on Friday.
