The Kwara State Government has tasked the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to improve service delivery to the residents of the state, saying many communities are without electricity power supply.
The government also called on the IBEDC to be considerate in the manner in which it billed the facilities owned by the state, including hospitals and waterworks.
AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniyu, the state Commissioner for Energy, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the IBEDC Regional Head, Toyin Akinyosoye, in Ilorin, on Tuesday.
AbdulGaniyu said the state government, on its part, had complimented the IBEDC services by paying the electricity bills of all government facilities promptly, constructing feeder lines and providing various communities with transformers and other electrical materials to enhance their access to regular electricity.
“We expect IBEDC to improve on your services to the people of the state in turn, and this will equally encourage the government to support you more,” the commissioner added.
Usman Kombat, the Chief Electrical Engineer of the ministry, also called on the IBEDC to ensure a steady power supply to all parts of the state, especially the southern and northern districts, noting that many communities in those areas had been denied access to electricity for over a year.
He said that a recent downpour damaged electricity poles in the Ilorin metropolis, calling for an immediate solution to restore power in the affected places.
Also, the IBEDC regional head said the allocation of power supply was limited because of network problems, assuring that things would improve soon.
He also said that the new billing tariff for customers was beyond what DisCo could modify, appealing to customers to accept the new development in good faith.
