A Milan Afropop singer called Salif Keita, popularly known as the ‘Gloden Voice of Africa’ has been named an advisor to the Milan’s head of military, Junta chief.
The announcement was made today in a decree signed by Colonel Assimi Goit, the head of the military who ousted the country’s elected president, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, in 2020.
The change-over president, in a decree dated August 11 and published August 14 2023, appointed five new special advisors and the singer is one of them.
However, the decree does not give details about the singer’s new appointment.
Salif Keita has been a strong supporter of Junta, he endorsed the narrative of national sovereignty and also called for the departure of UN peacekeeping troops from the country.
Few days back the 72 years old singer had sent a letter of resignation from an assembly set up by the military in power since 2020, to act as a legislative body.
Salif Keita gave no reason for his actions but only stated that he would always remain “the undisputed friend of my country’s soldiers.”
