Netizens drag Asisat Oshoala for removing shirt to celebrate Nigeria’s win

Mixed reactions trail as Super Falcons’ Asisat Oshoala pull her shirt to celebrate netting a third goal against Australia at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Oshoala who came on as a second-half subtitled, scored in the 72nd minute earning Nigeria a 3-2 victory on Thursday, at the Brisbane Stadium.

The 29-year-old removed her shirt in excitement and ran to the sideline to celebrate her goal with her teammates, getting a yellow card in the process.

The iconic photo has since stirred reactions on social media, while some condemned the act others hailed her for the great performance.

Webkid Afrika wrote: “Women in the football space especially players should be shown the red card for removing their jersey as a form of celebration. Asisat Oshoala should be used as a scapegoat !!!!!”

Ruth tweeted: “Since we won the match and the euphoria she was trying to express. Honestly, Asisat should have maintained a clad. She’s a female and that stands. Truth is bitter.”

Numberonetweep wrote: “Removing your jersey and exposing your body just because you scored a goal doesn’t make sense at all as a woman. Asisat Oshoala needs to fix up.”

Governor Bereyo Edward wrote: “Asisat Oshoala netted Nigeria’s 3rd goal against Australia and she pulled her shirt. Me thinking to say I wan see breast.”

Defending the Super Falcons player, former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, advised people not to talk much about the shirtless celebration, urging them to appreciate her great performance.

He wrote: “Don’t talk too much about Asisat shirtless stunt. I only looked at it once. Just appreciate her great performance and that of other Falcons.”

Also supporting the player, Officialsuo tweeted: “Guuuyyyyyy!!!!! Asisat Oshoala is a whole mooooodddd and a half!!!! These pics just dey give me joy…. The highlight of my day that’s for sure. Agba baller!!!! @AsisatOshoala Now I don dey find where I wan para pull shirt nii.”

Anochie Daniel wrote: “Her name is Asisat Oshoala.
She is a Muslim. She removed her shirt  to celebrate a goal… I’m waiting for northern Muslim people to come after her abi they supposed to cancel the goal or even give the point to Australia?…”
