The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo State has declared a three-day mourning over the sudden death of its late chairman, Fatai Adams.
Wakadaily reported that the Ondo state Chapter Chairman died in the wee hours of Wednesday in his Akure house following a brief illness. Adams was buried hours later according to Islamic rites.
Mr Adams passed away 43 days after his suspension.
The State Working Committee of the PDP in Ondo State suspended him last month over alleged involvement in some anti-party activities.
Reacting to the report, PDP said it is heart-broken and utterly devastated by the news of the sudden death of its chairman.
Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Kennedy Peretei, in a statement on Wednesday, said: “His transition at this trying time of the party is not only sad but traumatic. The State Working Committee of the party has declared a three-day mourning period. The party flags are to fly at half mast and all party secretariat shut for the period across the state.”
Also, the PDP South-West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, said, “His (Adam’s) sudden demise came to us as a rude shock and a big blow, considering his strength of character and ability to mobilise people.”
Atofarati, in the statement made available in Ado Ekiti, described Adams as “a loyal, committed and service-oriented party man who sacrificed for the growth of the party.
The late Fatai Adams played a key role in setting a unity table that strengthened the party in his state. He was an exceptionally dedicated administrator, an incomparable team player and a grassroots mobiliser.
“While extending our deep condolences to his immediate family, the NEC and the entire Ondo State PDP, we urge all our members to pray for the repose of his soul,” he added.
