A Former Senator that represented the Osun-west senatorial district, and governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke, said he will develop community policing in Osun state.
Osun State Governorship debate 2022, which was organised by Channel TV on Sunday, five candidates who were approved by INEC are Accord Party (AP), Akin Ogunbiyi: All Progressives Congress (APC), Oboyega Oyetola: Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Lasun: People’s Democratic Party ( PDP), Ademola Adeleke: Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oyegoke Omigbodun.
When asked how Adeleke will handle insecurity in Osun if elected? he said, “As an expert in security, I plan to make sure we have all the right equipment for our police, desperate the fact that police are being controlled by the federal government, that doesn’t mean”.
In his speech he noted, “I will support the police by giving them equipment and of course giving them guardians, surveillance and that is why I asked the governor the other time that we need our helicopter for surveillance, we don’t know where our helicopter is, and we need to know today because the Osun people have the right to know where our helicopter is.”
Adeleke added that when he was a senate, he has passed the emotions of community policing when. “I was growing up in Ede, we had neighbourhood watch, which alerts neighbours of any stranger and protects the area.
“Let’s bring it (community policing) back to attack insecurity in our neighbourhoods. State police is a constitutional matter and we don’t want to go against it until the senate amends the constitution for us to have the state police,” he said.
Recall that Senator Adeleke, was absent from the Wednesday debate, organised by Arise Television, in the July 16 governorship election 2023. While four other candidates participated.
