Pfizer And Kano State Join Forces To Launch Cutting-Edge Disease Research Hub

On Tuesday, the Kano State Government and Pfizer Inc., New York, held a high-level meeting to discuss the progress of the International Independent Research Trust and its efforts to establish a world-class research hub.

The state government provided the land, while Pfizer funded the establishment of the cutting-edge research center in Dawakin Kudu, Kano. This center plays a vital role in advancing disease research and control, as well as enhancing laboratory capabilities in Nigeria and West Africa.

Since its inception four years ago, the Trust has made significant strides in research volume and quality. During the visit, the Pfizer delegation, led by Rhulani Nhlaniki, paid respects to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and met with the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The meeting culminated in a joint statement from Pfizer and the Kano State government, highlighting the center’s ongoing development and long-term sustainability.

The team acknowledged the tireless efforts of individuals who contributed to the center’s success, including the late Prof. Kamil Alausa, who passed away on November 10, 2023, and extended best wishes to the Director General, Prof Hamisu Salihu, and Executive Secretary, David Odiwo, for their future endeavors.

The statement read, “With their selfless service, the research centre continues to be operational and managed sustainably to deliver immense value to the people of Kano State, Nigeria, and Africa as a whole,”
