On Monday, the Federal Fire Services in Abuja along with Nigerian Navy firefighters put out a massive fire at the UTC Shopping Plaza in Garki, Abuja.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Navy Spokesman Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu stated that the Navy firefighters were brought in to help the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the National Defense College (NDC) Fire Service put out the fire.
The statement read, “The Nigerian Navy Firefighters, a sub-unit of Naval Headquarters Garki Abuja were called to action yesterday 15th April, 2024 and helped avert what would have been a massive inferno at the popular UTC Shopping Plaza in Garki.
“According to the source, an electric spark in one of the plaza shops ignited the fire outbreak with the potential to consume many other shops & properties.
“However, as the fire surged, the NN Firefighters were called in to assist the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the National Defence College (NDC) Fire Service in fighting the flames.
“On arrival, the NN Firefighters swung into action and the situation was brought under control. Thankfully no lives were lost and damage to properties was limited,” the statement read.
