Habeeb Okikiola, a famous street-pop artiste called Portable, was apprehended by the Lagos state police command on Tuesday.
The arrest was made due to allegations that Portable had not paid off the debt he owed to a car dealer after buying his G-Wagon.
The vocalist was taken into custody after he failed to settle the remaining N14 million of the N27 million he owed for a G-Wagon vehicle he bought from a car dealership.
It was reported that he had only paid N13 million and declined to pay the remaining N14 million.
Prior to being taken to the police station, the singer had tried to avoid being arrested.
In a video that has now become popular online, Portable and a group of police officers were seen outside a building.
After being shown his arrest warrant, the singer made an effort to flee by jumping over the gate.
In different videos, four police officers were observed struggling with Portable as they forcefully put him into a nearby vehicle.
Benjamin Hudenyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed to Wakadaily that Portable has been apprehended.
“Yes, he’s with us. A vehicle dealer has lodged a complaint against him.
“If he gets a reliable surety, he will be granted bail,” the police spokesman said.
The singer has been arrested before, so this is not the first time. In March of last year, the Ogun police apprehended him for allegedly assaulting someone.
Portable had previously refused to comply with police efforts to apprehend him, and he even described himself as a burden to the federal government.
