The University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, under the umbrella of Association of Ezikeoba Academics, AEA, yesterday, gave funds awards of N100,000 each to 10 indigent.
While presenting the awards to the 10 indigent students from Enugu Ezike during the association’s first general meeting in 2024 at Nsukka, the President of the Association Prof. Emeka Obe said the funds was to assist the beneficiaries in their education.
The president of the association said that AEA as an Association made up of academics in UNN drawn from Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
“Today being our first meeting of the year, hosted by Dr. George Ali in his Nsukka residence, AEA will assist our indigent brothers and sisters in UNN to help them continue to navigate the tortuous contours of the academic arena.
“The Association since inception to the glory of God has been providing funds awards to indigent students of Enugu Ezike extraction in UNN.
” He stated earlier that, we raise money to sponsor these units through yearly contribution of members of AEA. Today, 10 indigent students will get N100,000 each as 2024 funds.”
The President mention Ezeja Uchenna of the Department of Pharmacy, Okoro Kosisochukwu of the Department of mass communication, Ossai Fiesta of the Department of science Education, among others.
He urged the beneficiaries to ensure that the money was directed into the academic endeavours so that they would be in a place to help other in the future.
Obe, that was represented by the Vice- President of AEA, Prof.Apex Apex, of the Department of History and international studies, UNN, commended the Bursary Awards Screening Committee for their dedication and charges in ensuring that the most helpless were chosen among over 50 applicants.
“It is because the committee members have eagle eyes that they were able to select the 10 most vulnerable among over 50 students who applied for this bursary.
“AEA will continue to ensure that indigent students in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State are assisted with the available resources of the Association.”
The President also encouraged young people to always try hard to get admission into the higher institutions while their parents and relations also try to sponsor them.
“I have personally been encouraging our people to dare whatever obstacle and get admission first and let the shame be on parents, relations and village as a whole for not seeing them through.
“Is not enough to fold your hands at home and blame your parents for not sending you to school when you have not gotten admission to any higher institution,” he noted.
