100 inmates, in Kano death row as others seek pardon

In Kano Correctional Centre over 100 inmates, including those on death row, have requested for pardon from the state government and the state Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.

Some of the inmates seeking for mercy includes those serving life imprisonment, those serving long sentences, and inmates with serious medical challenges,both older inmates and others.

Musbahu Mata, the state Correctional Centre Public Relations Officer revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

Musbahu, said that “the controller of the state command, Suleiman Inuwa, had presented the list of inmates who applied for clemency to the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Chairperson, Hajiya Bebeji, following the committee’s visit to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Janguzu, Kano.

Hajiya, in the statement, assured the inmates that the government would look into their conditions based on the evidence of good conduct and  while in custody.

However, she urged all inmates to obey the rules of the custodial centre and be productive to themselves and society.

The controller appreciated  Hajiya for sponsoring the Iftar feeding programme in the facility.
