Over a thousand miscreants have been removed from the Inner Northern Parkway corridor off of Abidjan Street in Wuse Zone 3 by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in collaboration with the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC).
Following yesterday’s cleanup operation, Felix Obuah, the coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, stated that forcing the residents to leave their homes was a pledge made by the current administration to make the city more attractive.
Obuah clarified that the council would send a statement to the minister of FCT outlining the necessary actions to ensure that the displaced individuals would not return to the area. Obuah claimed that apprehending the suspected criminals would give the Federal Capital City (FCC) the desired appearance.
“As a matter of fact we should appreciate what the minister of FCT is doing, our aim is to beautify the city and make Abuja one of the cities that you can be proud of in the whole world.
“This place is a road corridor, and look at the level of people that are occupying this place, all shanties, most of these criminals have taken over this place as their abode. So, by our wisdom we have decided to come here and clean up the place and reclaim it, and give Abuja the desired outlook,” he said.
He explained that the minister will not delay to move into action, “The minister as we all know will immediately move into action and see that this road is constructed like is doing to other roads in FCT.
“As part of our efforts to make sure that these miscreants don’t come back here to deface the city, our intention is to make sure that we relocate them to a place that they can stay permanently rather than coming to deface the city.
“We are going to make a memo to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory to see how far we can go, to make sure that this crowd is controlled.
“From what we have seen here, the People residing here are many, if we can relocate them within a short possible time it will make them not want to come back here again.
“We are going to send a task force here to ensure that no body build a shanty any longer in this environment, but we are going to make provision for them so that they won’t suffer undue hardship, without immediate measures in place they will go to other places and cause nuisance there too,” he said.
Mohammed Musa, a victim and the chairman of the community known as Ungwan Lambu, claimed that the reason they have lived there for 27 years is because of the unrest in their home state.
