2 dead, 2 hospitalised after taking herbal concoction

Two persons reportedly lost their lives while two others were hospitalised in Isanlu, Yagba East council area of Kogi State after drinking herbal concoction.

The victims identified as Okiribo, Samuel Folorunsho, Shola Pempe and one others decided to experiment on combining some fruits and roots on Tuesday evening.

The youth leader of the area, Segun Ariyo, said the four of them mixed Jimson Weeds and high plum fruits, known in the local parlance as “gegemu and obo fruits” and drank it to test their drinking capacity.

Few minutes after drinking it, Okiribo complained of stomach upset and decided to go into the nearby bush to defecate.

“It was there he died. While Samuel Folorunsho also complained of same stomach upset and went home and died.

“The two others were lucky as they were rushed to ECWA hospital in Makutu Isanlu. It was when Shola Pempe gain consciousness that he narrated what they drank to the people,” he said.

The victims were said to be an indigene of Kwara State who sojourn to the community few years back.
