202 suspsect arrested in Enugu for kidnapping and other crimes

202 people have been taken into custody by Enugu State Police Command operations for suspected involvement in rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other crimes throughout the state.

This was revealed by CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, during a press briefing on the operations of the Command in April and May of 2024.

According to the Commissioner, some of the suspects have been charged and placed under remand at the correctional facilities, while the remaining suspects will face charges once the investigations are over.

CP Kanayo further said that the alleged offenders were taken into custody both inside and outside the state.

35 of the 202 suspects were accused of kidnapping, while the remaining suspects were detained for armed robbery, vandalism, murder, cultism, rape, and illegal firearm possession.

Enugu State’s residents keep to the law, according to Kanayo, who called the state the most tranquil in the nation.

Using the occasion, he urged the populace to ignore the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) illegal sit-at-home edict, calling it an anomaly.

The head of police in Enugu then asked them to proceed with their legal business, reassuring them that the Command would be ready to provide protection.

In response to the suspected herdsmen attack that resulted in four deaths in the state, the police commissioner promised to work with his counterparts in the states of Benue and Kogi to intensify efforts to combat the crime.
