2m people die of excess sugar consumption yearly – Soludo’s wife

Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State governor has warned against excess consumption of sugar, saying that over two million people die every year.

Mrs Soludo spoke at the flag off of ‘Walk For Life’ programme organized by the Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria, UBWFAN, in Awka.

She urged people of all ages to reduce the intake of sugar in the interest of their health, as a lot of people die yearly from ailments associated with sugar consumption.

She said: “Salt is an important ingredient for food,  but consuming it more than the recommended unit leads to serious health problems.”

Also speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Forster Ihejiofor explained that three to ten minutes of exercise everyday could help to prolong life and eradicate diseases that normally occur when one does not exercise regularly.

He stressed that since there is life in the blood, there is need to clean the bloodstream through regular exercises and healthy dieting.
