45-years old man arrested in Delta State over production of fake alcoholic beverages

The Delta State Police Command agents arrested 45-year-old Chiemenam Adigwe on suspicion of producing fake alcoholic beverages in the state’s Bomadi local government area.

Chiemenam Adigwe, who is a native of Akpo community in Aguata local government, Anambra State, is accused by the police of blending ethanol and water, adding taste, and then packing the phony drinks in empty bottles of well-known beverage brands that he typically purchases from Onitsha.

The suspect admitted that he had told the people he supplied that he often gets his drinks from Onitsha.

On April 25, 2024, at around 1100 hours, Adigwe was taken into custody when information concerning his fictitious production of alcoholic beverages in Bomadi was received.

Following receipt of the information, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, the State Commissioner of Police, gave the Bomadi Division’s DPO instructions to make sure the culprit is located, apprehended, and charged.

The DPO then guided agents to the suspect’s hiding place, where they apprehended him in possession of more than a hundred bottles of fake McDowell, Gordons, Chelsea, and Eagle Schnapps.

While displaying the suspect with other people detained for a range of offenses in Asaba, CP Olufemi attested to this.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect committed the offense. He is in police custody while investigation is ongoing,” Olufemi said.
