CBN bans dollar charges on domestic transactions

Afrigo, the Nigerian National Domestic Card Scheme, has been introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, announced the virtual launch of the card this morning and said that all transaction fees on cards going forward, with the exception of overseas transactions, will be paid in naira.

According to Mr. Godwin Emefiele: “Afrigo would be cheaper and would be a matter of national pride, with the potential to boost financial inclusion.”
