Police fire tear gas at protesting UNILAG students, arrest 2

Nigerian police officers from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two protesters at the University of Lagos Junction and fired tear gas to disperse the students.

A video circulating on social media showed some of the protesters carrying placards as they ran from the tear gas.

Police officers arrested two students, identified as Femi Adeyeye and Philip Olatinwo and put in a police van stationed at the school gate.

Another protester Bayo who spoke with journalists said, “Many students have fled the scene. I’m hiding somewhere. Femi and Philip are inside the Black Maria. They have not moved them to anywhere”.

Recalls that the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on Tuesday vowed to moblise its members to protest at the University of Lagos today, over the hike in school fees across the country after shunning the Department of State Services threat.

on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 approximately 50 UNILAG students gathered at the university entrance to voice their dissatisfaction.

All efforts to reach the Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin and the management of UNILAG proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
