King Mohammed VI of Morocco, announced that the country will spend $11.6 million (120 dirhams) to restore the areas of the nation that was affected by the earthquake on September 8.
BBC report on Wednesday that the funds will be used to support more than 4.2 million people affected by the earthquake.
According to the palace announcement, the money would be used to “rehouse affected people, reconstruct homes and restore infrastructure” over a five-year period.
Over 2,900 people were killed and over 5,000 were injured as a result of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake. the strongest recorded in the North African country in more than 60 years.
“Morocco has, hitherto, received international support to the tune of $700m in donations to help with its earthquake recovery plan.
The earthquake destroyed infrastructure and more than 50,000 homes in the High Atlas Mountains.
The country plans to make up the deficit using funds allocated by the Moroccan government, international aid and continued donations to the earthquake recovery fund.”
