Recently, Nigerians cried out about the unbearable weather condition being experienced lately. The Lagos State government also has again emphasized the adverse effects of the green house effects caused by green house gases as a result of the change in climatic condition.
The state government has noted that the current high temperature experienced in various parts of the country, not just Lagos State is an indication of the level of burning of fossil fuels, cutting down of forests and farming livestock which highly influences the climate and the earth’s temperature.
In order to achieve a common and sustainable plan aimed at minimizing the effect of climate change and its repercussions on human health, LASEPA called for public understanding and cooperation.
The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi in his statement released by the agency last month noted that “The Air quality index as released by the agency is an indication that there is need for people to be more conscious of what they do to the environment” imploring residents to become climate change activists in their various areas of business and livelihood, thereby supporting the government in protecting the environment through actions and activities that are more environmental-friendly.

Ajayi added that tree planting advocacy must be strengthened in all public and private schools to enable the youth and children to imbibe the culture, noting that “green-energy is safer, more secure and environmental-friendly than diesel or gasoline oil”
The general manager also advised motorists to reduce the numbers of vehicles plying the roads daily, suggesting the utilization of public transportation rather than having private vehicles excessively on the roads daily.
“LASEPA will continue to monitor the environment and implement policies that would ensure compliance with government’s regulations and guidelines towards achieving a cleaner, safer, pollution-free environment befitting the status of the state”, Ajayi stated.
