A protest has been held at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) office by the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN) and its workers.

The demonstration is taking place at the NAFDAC office in Lagos, which is located in the state’s Isolo region.

The protesters and members of the Association were seen with placards Baring several inscription with some saying “Let poor Nigerians breath” “Let beverage workers breath” amongst others

The NAFDAC enforced the prohibition on alcoholic beverages in sachets and glass bottles with a capacity of less than 200 milliliters on February 1, 2024 which has now lead to this protest.

No such beverages were registered with the NAFDAC, according to NAFDAC head Mojisola Adeyeye.

NAFDAC was given 14 days to lift its ban on sachet alcohol by members of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association of Nigeria on February 13, 2024.

The threat was made by the group, which is a Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliate, during a demonstration at the NAFDAC offices in Abuja.

If nothing is done, association members vowed to intensify protests at all of the agency’s offices around the country.
