Reps urges TCN to restore power supply to Yenogoa

The House of Representatives has urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria to urgently restore power in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

A motion titled “Call to resuscitate the power transmission sub-station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, moved by member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State, Mr. Obuku Oforji” was adopted before the House’s resolution was adopted.

On September 23, 2023, the 132/33KV transmission sub-station serving Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital and its environs was gutted by fire, throwing Yenagoa in total darkness,” Oforji said, guiding the debate on the House floor during plenary on Wednesday. As a result, the State has found it difficult to serve five feeders with just one feeder.

In addition, he noted that the operational feeder is becoming weaker and emphasized that “the feeder will collapse if urgent steps are not taken.”

Informed that the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has been providing corrective services to prevent the weak operational feeder from collapsing, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen of the House, urged TCN to act quickly “to prevent the complete collapse of power distribution and transmission in Yenagoa.”

The Committee on Power was also given instructions to guarantee compliance.
