Women group advices students to embrace STEM

The group of International Forum for Women (IFW) in energy, Oil and Gas has urged parents, teachers, and students to embrace STEM while chasing their future goals.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic (STEM) covers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines and professional fields that drive innovation, technological advancement, and economic growth.

Mrs Lucy Okeke, the Lagos chapter Secretary of the forum, declared this while during the 2024 International Women’s Day at Victoria Island Secondary School, Lagos.

Okeke said, there is a need for female students to embrace STEM education, saying that it goes beyond school subjects.

STEM gives us a skill set that governs the way we think and behave. Merging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education helps us solve the challenges the world faces today.

“In today’s rapidly evolving world, STEM education provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a world driven by technology and innovation,” she stated.

She also stated that, this provide an opportunity to reflect on the journey that lies ahead in empowering women and girls in Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM).

According to Okeke, the world needs students’ innovative solutions to tackle complex problems, saying, “Do not let anyone tell you that certain fields are off-limits based on gender; the doors to STEM are wide open for you, and your presence will only enrich these disciplines.”.
