“Let us all work hard to get a good constitution for our beloved country” – Kalu

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged all public servants to put up great effort in crafting a stronger constitution for the country.

At a retreat held in Abuja on Monday for senior legislative assistants working for his office, Kalu made the announcement.

He pointed out that Nigeria might effectively implement democracy if it had a strong constitution.

In his words, the Office of the Deputy Speaker will serve as an administrative hub for constitutional amendment disputes by conducting in-depth study and needs analysis of Nigerian citizens.

In addition, Kalu, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review, promised that the parliament is prepared to collaborate with the appropriate parties in order to alter pertinent sections of the 1999 Constitution for the benefit of the nation.

He said, “Let us all work hard to get a good constitution for our beloved country. This is a task for us all, government officials and indeed, all Nigerians.

“As aides, you must continue to uphold our standards in administering the office. Efficiency, professionalism, and ethical considerations should guide our interactions and decision-making process. You are not only custodians of my office but also ambassadors of our nation’s democratic values.

“An essential aspect of your duties lies in economic advisory. We are tasked with dealing with complex issues surrounding projects and budgets. This duty requires an in-depth understanding of our national economy, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth.

“In the realm of politics, you interface with the political aspects of the office.

“This role requires navigating the complex interplay of political interests and alliances while always keeping the nation’s best interest at heart.”

Sani Tambuwal, the Clerk to the National Assembly, often emphasized the value of the working connection between legislative assistants and their superiors, emphasizing that no organization could achieve its objectives without collaboration.

In a separate speech, the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker, Toby Okechukwu, stated that the event represented a critical turning point in the group’s progress toward excellence, cooperation, and synergy.
