Senate confirms Alade AMCON boss

Member of the red chamber have confirmed Gbenga Alade as the new Managing Director of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Jude Nwauzor, the Head of Corporate Communications Department of AMCON, declared that three other executive directors of the agency were also confirmed by the Senate.

Wakadaily learnt that, in February 2024, President Bola Tinubu  approved the appointment of Gbenga Alade as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Assets Management Cooperation of Nigeria, replacing Ahmed Kuru who resumed office in August 2015.

Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, also disclosed the appointment in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new AMCON management team’.

President Bola Tinubu also appointed three other executive directors, including, Aminu Ismail, Adeshola Lamidi, and Lucky Adaghe, pending their confirmation by the Senate

According to Ngelale, the President expects “unflagging dedication, professionalism, and dutifulness from the new appointees to ensure that the operations of AMCON are more efficient, transparent, and in consonance with his determination to sanitize the nation’s financial system to maximise value and enhance investor confidence in the Nigerian economy”.

While, speaking on their approvals, Nwauzor noted that the final confirmation at Tuesday’s plenary came after the screening exercise by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

The distinguished Senator told the Senate that the nominees were subjected to screening in line with parliamentary rules and were found competent to serve as directors of AMCON.

According to Nwauzor, they all have ‘the job’ experience, “just as the nominees also complied with the Code of Conduct rules. Most importantly, Abiru added that no petition was raised in objection to their nomination”.

The plenary, which was presided by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, dissolved into the ‘Committee of the Whole’ to consider each nominee based on their merit, after which they were confirmed through voice vote,” he concluded.
