Reps move to consolidate partnership with turkey counterpart with

On Thursday, the House of Representatives reaffirmed its resolve to maintain diplomatic relations with Turkey.

Joshua Gana, the chairman of the Nigeria-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group, made this announcement on Thursday during the committee’s first meeting in Abuja.

He said, “You will recall that the committee was not a full-fledged committee in the 9th Assembly, but it has now been upgraded to a full-fledged Committee.

“By this, more responsibilities have been placed on us.

“Our mandate is to expand Nigeria’s legislative relationship with Turkey through exchange of visits, workshops, seminars, other channels of communication and engagements, exchange of parliamentary programmes, practices and procedures to deepen Nigeria’s legislative democracy, democratic culture and good governance.

“This will further enhance the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Turkey.”

A courtesy visit to the Turkish Embassy has been requested by Gana, who represents the Edati/Lavun/Mokwa Federal Constituency in Niger State. Gana stated that “Both parliaments have exchanged the list of their membership of the friendship group.”

Members of the group, Etanabene Benedict and Rabiu Kamba, offered recommendations on how the Nigeria-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group could help Nigerians, while also praising the committee chairman and offering their support.

They emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from both nations’ rich political histories and cultural diversity.
