NICA calls for credit awareness desks

Credit Management Professional has charged employers of National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA)  in the country to establish credit awareness desks to develop awareness of creditworthiness requirements for existing and potential credit clients in their businesses.

The NICA disclosed this on Sunday, that such a desk will bridge the gap between credit grantors/providers and their customers.

Prof. Chris Onalo, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, NICA, said, “There is a need for the employers of credit professionals to introduce credit awareness desks or credit counselling desks. There should be a department where credit professionals can have some hours of discussion with the credit customer applicant.”

The professor of credit management, who has been consistently advocating for a new economy in Nigeria driven by the credit system, when credit is approved, there should be monitoring to know if the transaction is making good progress or if there are challenges.

Onalo urged the professional credit manager or controller to ask questions on issues like, “Do you have any problems Do you have any difficulty? How is your business going? How prudent is the use of credit to grow or expand a business? The consequences of a failed credit.”
