Housing minister charges quantity surveyors board on transparency

Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, called on the newly inaugurated board of Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria to promote integrity, honesty, transparency, and fairness in the course of performing their professional duties.

Dangiwa made this known during the formal inauguration of the 10th constituted Board of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria.

The 15-member board comprises six appointees of the ministry under Section 2 (1)b  of the Act, five appointees representing the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors following Section 2(1) c of the Act, and four appointees representing institutions of higher education following Section 2 (1)d of the Act.

He stressed that the appointment of the board members was to urge the national service, adding that they had an important role to play in fixing the challenges facing the housing sector through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, as intended by President Bola Tinubu.

Dangiwa listed the responsibilities of the board to include: determining the quantity surveyors’ standard of knowledge and skills, regulating and controlling the practice of the quantity surveying profession in all its aspects and ramifications.

The full details of your duties and responsibilities are prescribed in the enabling Act of the QSRBN, which will be handed over to you at the end of the inauguration ceremony. I urge you to carefully read through them and become familiar with them as the knowledge will help and guide you towards contributing your quota to national development,” he stated.

Dangiwa also asked the board to leverage its wealth of experience, to ensure a reduction in the high cost of construction projects and procurement in the country.

According to him, the construction sector where the quantity surveyors belong to is a major driver of employment and economic growth.

Also speaking, Obafemi Onashile, promised that the board will  work without prejudice in the discharge of its duties.

He noted that it would also partner with the Federal Government, the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and other stakeholders to upscale the impact of the quantity surveying profession on the country’s economy.
