Police explains why Bobrisky, other crossdressers can’t be arrested

The Nigeria Police has explained why they can’t apprehend cross-dressers in Nigeria.

During an interview on Channels TV, the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the situation is tricky, for that they can’t be arrested.

He confirmed that cross-dressing is currently not considered a crime in Nigeria.

He further mentioned that although there may be claims of individuals who engage in cross-dressing being associated with the LGBTQ community, there is insufficient concrete proof to support this, making it impossible to bring legal action against them.

“There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove. I’m not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidences against them. I have not read anywhere where crossdressing is an offence in Nigeria.

“Some of them that are into crossdressing, the allegation is that they are into something else. That’s where the problem lies. We need to have enough proof, credible evidence to prove that they are actually into that. All those offences are natural offences in Nigeria and they are punishable under our laws”.

Adejobi’s statement come during a period when certain Nigerians are raising concerns about the moral position of Bobrisky, a crossdresser who was recently recognized as the best-dressed at a movie premiere by Eniola Ajao.
