Over 219 pedestrians were prosecuted for crossing the highway by the LAGESC

In March, the Lagos State Government has arrested and prosecuted not less than 219 individuals crossing expressways in different parts of the state.

This was disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, by Lukman Ajayi, the spokesperson for Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, on Tuesday.

He said that the offenders were apprehended at Oshodi, Dopemu, Ikeja, Ikorodu Road, Ketu and Ojota.

Ajayi also stated that this arrests would continue until people obey the rules that would save their  lives.

He wondered why some people including parents, would hold their children to cross a 10-lane-expressway when there is a pedestrian bridge.

The LAGESC spokesman urged residents, especially parents, to advise their wards against crossing the expressways.

According to him this agency was dedicated to save lives by enforcing laws in that regard.

In February, the state government  emphasized the crossing of major highways in the state by pedestrians as an offence noting that any defaulter caught in the act would be prosecuted.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources,  revealed this, he added that LAGESC officials with other agencies had been urged to enforce the directive.
