Lagos State Govt demolishes VI illegal structures, dislodges mechanics

The Lagos State government has destroyed all illegal structures on setbacks on Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island.

This was revealed by the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Sunday through his X platform.

Tokunbo, said that the mechanics of macGregor Road in Ikoyi area of Lagos were dislodged, due to several complaints from the public, he stated that this was done after the occupants refuse to listen to the several notices served to them.

Wahab wrote, “On Friday, April 5, 2024, in response to public complaints received by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, and after serving several notices to mechanics on MacGregor Road, Ikoyi to vacate the area, they were dislodged. Also, illegal structures placed on the setback at Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island were removed.”

The action was amongst many operations by the state government targeted at removing illegal structures and dislodging the occupants.

It was said that the government earlier has began the demolishing of illegal structures and shanties to reclaim coastal road alignment for the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Highway project.

The President Tinubu led administration  announced last month it had begun the construction of the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

For the first phase of construction, the coastal highway project is expected to cost N1.067tn.
