Senator Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Support for Universal Healthcare in Nigeria

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, urged citizens to support the drive for universal healthcare ‘Health for All’ , highlighting the persistent issue of unequal access to high-quality medical services.

In a statement released on Sunday for the 2024 World Health Day, she acknowledged the advancements in Nigeria’s healthcare industry and praised the unwavering efforts of the country’s healthcare practitioners, who have consistently stood by the nation during various emergencies such as the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The News Agency of Nigeria stated that this year’s World Health Day has the theme ‘Health for All, Health Equity’.
This day is recognized worldwide by the World Health Organization to bring attention to global health concerns and emphasize the significance of overall wellness.

On the occasion of World Healthcare Day, the First Lady Stated , “Today, as we observe the World Healthcare Day, the theme ‘Health for All: Health Equity’ resonates deeply. It reminds us that healthcare delivery is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

“While significant progress has been made in the healthcare sector in Nigeria, the gap in health equity remains a critical challenge and we must collectively rise up to the occasion.

“We live in a world where access to quality healthcare delivery service varies due to socio-economic diversities, creating disparities in health outcomes.”

She commended the efforts of other stakeholders, saying, “I commend all our healthcare workers for their dedication and commitment to service.

“Nigeria has weathered so many storms, from Ebola to COVID and yet, we are still here, due to the dedication and commitment of our healthcare workers.

“I commend you and say a big thank you to you all,” Mrs Tinubu said.

As a result, she urged all compassionate Nigerians, groups, and institutions to come together to make ‘Health for All’ a reality in the country.
