As promised during his electioneering campaign, Senator Jonas Eteng Williams, the representative of the Cross River Central senatorial constituency in the National Assembly, will provide free medical care to over 8,000 constituents.
Over 2,000 individuals attended the free medical outreach over the course of the weekend in the Yakurr local government region of the State, namely in the settlements of Ugep and Mkpani.
Patients with hernia and appendicitis were among the conditions treated during the outreach, which was held at Ugep General Hospital and Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mkpani, both in Yakurr LGA of the State.
In addition to receiving free medication, medical examinations, and drug distribution, patients with lipomatosis and ganglion cysts also received general medical checkups.
At the flag-off event, the senator’s media assistant, Mr. Hope Obeten, represented him. He said the medical outreach was consistent with the lawmaker’s pledge made during his electioneering campaign that the health of his people was important to him and would be given priority if elected.
“This medical outreach is in keeping with some of our campaign promises of prioritising the people’s welfare and wellbeing.
“We believe this is a necessary intervention for our people because we noticed most of them have these health challenges but don’t have the means to get medical attention.
“We believe this is a worthwhile venture that will make people’s lives better. This intervention means a lot and makes a lot of difference in the lives of many of them.
“And we are doing it to complement the effort of Cross River State Government through the State Ministry of Health.
“I think we are doing the right thing and I believe that next year, by the Grace of God, we will do more if we see more people who need our intervention,” the lawmaker stated
According to Senator Williams, the ongoing medical outreach program at Eja Memorial Hospital Itigidi, in the state’s Abia local government area, will be duplicated on Monday at Obubra General Hospital. It will also take place at the Primary Health Center at Bendeghe, Ekim, in the state’s Etung local government area.
The medical outreach, he continued, will take place at Primary Health Centre Okundi in Boki LGA on Tuesday and Wednesday. It will conclude at Comprehensive Health Centre, Four Corners in the state’s Ikom local government area on Thursday.
