Abia state govt moves to revitalize industrial layouts

The government of Abia State intends to revitalize the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba and create more industrial layouts throughout the region.

While briefing reporters on the results of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, which Governor Alex Otti chaired in Umuahia on Monday, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu revealed this information on Tuesday.

The commissioner stated that the plans align with the state’s administration, led by Otti,’s comprehensive agenda for economic development.

Kanu stated that all required infrastructure would be provided by the state government to allow investors to establish themselves in specific industrial layouts.

He went on to say that having these amenities available would make conducting business in certain layouts hassle-free.

He said, “Most importantly, the state government wants to consolidate Aba as a business hub and Abia state generally as an investors’ haven.

“So, the road infrastructure being provided by the state government, the provision of security, provision of power, like we have in Geometrics, the ease of doing business improvements, all these factors add up into making Abia state an investors’ delight.”

He added that the administration would vigorously pursue this proposal in the upcoming weeks and months to guarantee that the layouts are implemented.

Kanu further declared that the Harmonized Task Force, which was recently established to address touting, extortion, and harassment of the state’s people and residents, will begin its official activities by the Abia State government.

He said that the event would happen in Aba and Umuahia on Tuesday at the same time.

“The focus will be on Umuahia and Aba as all members of the Harmonized TaskForce the Magistrates, the Area and Zonal coordinators and all the operatives involved are expected to participate fully in the exercise tomorrow Tuesday, April 9,” he said.

The information director shared the Abia State government’s intentions to transform Umuahia into a smart city. In order to make the state capital’s Isigate neighborhood smart city-ready, he said, the administration would shortly begin to implement its plans for redesign and beautification.

“This plan has been on the drawing board for quite a while, but in the coming months, the government will take its plans off the drawing board. A committee has all the while been working towards providing solutions that would make that part of the state capital look better than it actually does now,” he said.

During the press conference, the commissioner was accompanied by Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, Commissioner for Land and Housing, and Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Advisor to the Governor on Media and Publicity.
