Immigrations CG orders investigation of officers linked to assault

An investigation into an alleged assault by certain immigration agents on a journalist named Seun Falomo and staff members of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency has been requested by the Nigeria Immigration Service.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the agency’s public relations officer, Kenneth Udo, quoted NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap as giving the order.

Nandap declared that any of the NIS’s officials or personnel who disobeyed the law or the code of conduct would face immediate consequences from the agency.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a tale had been going around claiming that certain immigration agents had attacked OYSRTMA staff members as well as a journalist named Seun Falomo who worked for Galaxy Television.

NAN also learned that the OYSRTMA personnel purportedly caught a former Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, according to the incident report that was swiftly forwarded from the Zone “F” Headquarters of NIS in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the incident took place.

He had broken traffic laws in the Onipepeye region (Old Ife Road), and when the staff attempted to arrest him, he resisted and attacked them, which caused his son who was driving the car to break his leg.

Unfortunately, Nandap claims, when immigration agents at the Zone F office attempted to step in, the situation became a great deal.

“I have ordered a thorough investigation into the case and we have, however, swung into action to uncover the facts behind the fracas,” she said.

The CG pleaded with the people to be understanding and asked for continued cooperation with other sister agencies of the government at all levels.

The head of NIS underlined her dedication to maintaining professionalism and integrity in carrying out the agency’s primary responsibilities, which include managing migration and border security.
