School seeks Sanwo-Olu’s intervention over demolition threat

In an act to foster development and ensure safety in the educational sector, the Saint Margaret Group of Schools, Ikorodu, Lagos, has called on the Lagos State Government, to stop the planned demolition of the school by the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

From the news gathered, on Thursday, the School  authority made a call during a protest, it was disclosed that the school was founded 42 years ago, in 1982, made the call during a protest.

The Proprietor, Pastor Olusegun Alonge, said, “We call on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and stop the Illegal demolitions of Saint Margaret Group of Schools. The invasion by the Lagos State Building Control Agency ON March 27, 2024, has already damaged some of our structures and facilities.”

When asked if the school had building documentation, he replied affirmatively, stating they had a collection of documents for all their building facilities. Alonge explained that one of the actions taken after the incident was visiting the office of the LASBCA’s General Manager, however, he was denied an audience.

Also speaking, Mr Lawani Abiola, the coordinator of the group of schools, appealed to the governor to use his good office to rescue the school from the attack of the Building Agency, noting that no notice was served to the school before the partial demolition on March 27th, 2024 around 2 pm while students were still writing examinations.

He said, “Five staff of the school were arrested and whisked down to Badagry police station on the day of the attack on the school.”

A parent, Mr Obamude Omoniyi, narrated his son’s ordeals due to the traumatic encounters with the armed men at their school.

He quoted the son, “Daddy, I have been seeing that kind of gun in the cartoon but never known anyone can bring such to our school to threaten us, going to school is not safe.”

The statement added that some journalists visited the LASBCA’s office at GRA Ikeja, and said, “We met with the Director of Media, Mr Olaoye Olusegun, who denied any information about the operation by the headquarters. He showed displeasure at the approach of the men but promised to investigate the report.”
