Dana Air confines aircraft over sliding off track

On Tuesday morning, at the domestic track of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, the Dana aircraft registered 5N BKI slid off the track. As a result, the management of Dana Airlines confined the flight.

According to the report, the aircraft slid off because of the runway’s damp surface from Lagos’ early-morning downpour.

More information was obtained indicating that the aircraft carried 83 passengers and flight attendants when it took off from Abuja and arrived in Lagos.

Additionally, investigators from the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have been sent to the scene of the event.

But according to a press release from Kingsley Ezenwa, head of Corporate Communications at Dana Air, all 83 passengers and staff members on board the flight safely departed and there were no injuries or scares because the crew acted with the highest professionalism during the circumstance.

He claims that the event has been reported to the appropriate safety authorities and that the airline’s maintenance crew has confined the concerned aircraft in order to conduct additional investigation.

“Dana Air regrets to inform the public of a runway incursion involving one of our aircraft, registration number 5N BKI, which was flying from Abuja to Lagos, on Tuesday 23rd April, 2024.

“We are relieved to confirm that all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.

“We have also updated the AIB and NCAA on the incident and the aircraft involved has been grounded by our maintenance team for further investigation.

“We wish to thank the airport authorities, our crew for their very swift response in ensuring the safe disembarkation of all passengers following the incident and our sincere apologies and appreciation to the passengers on the affected flight for their patience and understanding.

“We wish to reassure our passengers that their safety will always be our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Ezenwa stated.
