Lagos To Evaluate ‘One Way’ Traffic Offenders For Psychiatric Issues

The Lagos State Government has taken a firm stance on the issue of traffic violations, particularly the dangerous act of driving against the designated flow of traffic, which is commonly referred to as ‘One Way’.

This new measure mandates that any individual caught engaging in this reckless behavior will be subjected to a mandatory psychiatric evaluation test.

This decision was publicly announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2024 ministerial briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja. Osiyemi stressed the significance of strict adherence to traffic laws in ensuring the safety and well-being of all road users within the state.

The government’s commitment to promoting responsible driving practices highlights its dedication to maintaining order and security on Lagos roads.

“The menace of driving against the flow of traffic is worrisome and the state government is determined to curb it.

“Henceforth, any offender apprehended will be taken for psychiatric test as well as prosecuted according to Lagos State Traffic laws.” Osiyemi stated.

Expressing vehement condemnation towards the nefarious activities of impostors masquerading as Ministry of Transportation personnel within the metropolis, Osiyemi urged the public to be vigilant and report any such fraudulent behavior by dialing the designated hotlines – 09020009000 and 09020004000.

In an effort to combat this deceptive practice, he emphasized the importance of citizens cooperating with authorities to ensure the safety and security of the community.

Furthermore, Osiyemi stressed that these hotline numbers can also serve as crucial channels for reporting and addressing any traffic-related incidents that may occur in the bustling metropolis.
