Nigerian Customs Seize Explosives in Kebbi

Along the Yauri-Jega Road in Kebbi State, a border patrol team of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Immigration Service, Department of State Service, and Nigerian Army, under the command of A.A. Ibrahim, the Chief Superintendent of Customs and currently the Assistant Comptroller of Customs, has seized 40 cartons and sacks containing 6,240 pieces of cap that are thought to be sensitive dynamite explosives.

Yesterday, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, the state’s customs area comptroller, briefed reporters about the events that transpired in his office in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State. He stated that following a joint personnel examination, the suspected items were found to contain 40 cartons and sacks totaling 6,240 pieces of cap sensitive dynamite explosives (Super Power 90), which were loaded on a white Canter/truck with registration number ZUR 882ZY together with a Haejue motorcycle number JEG-562 UQ.

The comptroller reported that the Customs Command in Birnin Kebbi had apprehended and arrested two individuals, and that the department of state service personnel had received the seized goods.

After a heavy gunfight with the militias, the military, acting on intelligence, were able to halt the attack.

The militias were forced to flee in confusion by the army’ subsequent engagement.

The Nigerian Army stated in a statement on X that during the operation, weapons and ammunition were taken from the militants.

Additionally, the Army revealed that clearing operations were carried out in several Taraba State communities.

The post read, “The troops of 93 Battalion Sub-Sector 3B OPWS, acting on credible intelligence, carried out clearance operations in Rikwenmakpawere and Alaha villages in Ussa Local Government Area. A foiled attack at Kweserti village prompted the swift response of the troops, who engaged the armed militias with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

“During the operation, two extremists were neutralized, and one AK-47 magazine along with seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from the fleeing militants.”

A separate operation in Lau Local Government Area resulted in the arrest of two terrorists, according to the Army.

“In Lau Local Government Area, troops of 114 Battalion Sub-Sector 3C made significant strides in combating violent extremism by apprehending two suspected extremists.

“Subsequent interrogation of the suspects led to the recovery of additional weapons, including 1 SMG rifle, one single-barrel gun, two AK-47 magazines, and 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the post added.
