Bayelsa Governor swears in new appointees

On Monday, Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, swore in fourteen new commissioners, including Daniel Iniekezimene, the head of the Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue, and the newly elected chairs of the eight local government councils.

The event was held within Government House, Yenagoa’s Executive Council Chambers.

Biriyai Dambo SAN (Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice), Moses Teibowei (Works and Infrastructure), Maxwell Ebibai (Finance), Dr. Gentle Emelah (Education), Daniel Igali (Sports Development), and Preye Brodericks (Special Duties, Bayelsa East) are the re-appointed cabinet members who held their positions during the governor’s first term.

Dr. Ebieri Jones, who was assigned to Trade and Industry from Mineral Resources, and Flint George, who served as Special Duties, Bayelsa Central, were among the others who returned but were re-deployed to Budget and Economic Planning.

Elizabeth Bidei (women’s affairs), Peter Afagha (mineral resources), Komuku Kharim (power), Mrs. Ebiwou Koku-Obiyai (labor and productivity), and Michael Magbisa (special duties, Bayelsa West) are the recently appointed commissioners.

As he begins his second term, Diri said the ceremony represented a turning point in the state’s history.

He stated that the administration’s first term established the foundation for a wealthy Bayelsa in a number of industries, but he acknowledged that much work remained.

According to him, “this event underscores your dedication to fostering inclusive prosperity for all Bayelsans. On behalf of the government and the people of our state, I extend my sincere congratulations to each of you.”

He tasked them with starting lasting projects and initiatives in their respective ministries because they had a big part to play in hastening the state’s development.

The governor further tasked them with practicing sound financial management to guarantee optimal resource use and to encourage peer collaboration for productive synergy, given the complementary nature of their roles.

Diri emphasized to the recently sworn-in local government chairmen and vice chairmen that the Prosperity Government was prepared to fortify the third branch of government in order to promote community development.

Isaac Oniye (Ekeremor) and Lucky Febo (Brass) are the new council chairmen.

Target Segibo (Southern Ijaw), Mrs. Alice Tangi (Sagbama), Golden Jeremiah (Ogbia), David Alagoa (Nembe), Tariye Isaac (Kolokuma/Opokuma), and Boludisiye Ndiwari (Yenagoa).
