Sanwo-Olu vows to invest in workers’ training

In order to enhance their skills for better efficiency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor has vowed to invest in the education of workers.

On Wednesday, where civil servants gathered for the May Day celebration, Sanwo-Olu revealed this in his Workers’ Day address at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

As we look towards the future, I want to reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society in which the interest of workers receives the attention it deserves. We will continue to invest in education, training and skills development to equip our workforce with the tools they need to succeed in their places of work because we recognise the vital role that workers play in driving progress and prosperity in our society,” the governor told workers.

“And we pledge to build a future where every worker is respected, empowered and able to live with dignity and pride,” he added.

The Lagos State Governor highlighted the interventions his government had made to mitigate the prevailing harsh economy on Lagosians, particularly the workers.

Among some of the intervention programmes put in place, according to the governor, are the implementation of the N35,000 wage award for public servants with effect from December 2023; re-implementation of 25 per cent basic salary incentives for core establishment agencies; and the implementation of worktime flexibility which allows civil servants on Grade Levels 1 – 14 to work from home twice a week, while those on grade levels 15 – 17 are allowed once a week with effect from February 28, 2024.
