Wife of IPOB leader pays him a visit in DSS custody

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Kanu, has praised Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Anambra South Senatorial District for allowing her to visit her husband at the Department of State Services facility in Abuja.

Mrs. Kanu revealed that she saw her husband on April 16 during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Sunday, following multiple denials from DSS agents.

Ever since his rendition from Kenya in 2021, when he was arrested again for allegedly breaching his bail when he fled the country in 2017, Kanu has been held at the DSS prison facility.

Speaking on the live radio broadcast, Mrs. Kanu addressed some Igbo people residing in the UK and other countries. She claimed that up until last month, she had been repeatedly refused access to her husband. However, she phoned Senator Ubah, who quickly arranged for her visit.

She claimed to be aware of the genuine concern among many Igbo elite for her husband’s wrongful imprisonment and that they were making quiet efforts to assist in his release.

She said, “Let me use this opportunity to thank Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who moved swiftly to facilitate my visit to my husband in DSS custody. I thank you sir.

“I thank other Igbo politicians, governors and political office holders who are concerned about the plight of my husband. A lot of these elites are concerned about the unlawful detention of my husband, and are working silently to secure a round table discussion for his release. I’m thankful to them.”

On Monday, Ubah verified to reporters that, upon being approached, he had helped Mrs. Kanu visit her husband in custody after learning that she was having trouble doing so.

He said, “Yes, she was in Nigeria and she approached me and told me that she needed to visit her husband, but was finding it difficult, so I immediately intervened. I visited her husband too with her in the company of Barr. Ejiofor. She met with her husband in the DSS facility on April 16.”
