Edun hails World Bank’s role in economic growth

Following the economic development, Mr Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, expressed his gratitude to Dr.Shubham Chaudhari, the outgoing World Bank Country Director, for his significant contribution to the country.

After the meeting in Abuja, Mr Edun highlighted the World Bank’s impact on the nation’s economy and Dr Chaudhari’s dedication to Nigeria’s growth.

He announced this in a statement signed by Mohammed Manga, the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, which was made available to the press on Tuesday.

Shubham Chaudhuri has been serving as the Country Director for Nigeria since 2019. Before assuming this role, he was the World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan.

Edun praised Chaudhari’s leadership, stating, “Your leadership and expertise have made a significant impact on our country’s progress.”

He stressed the importance of the World Bank’s support in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The minister outlined the administration’s fiscal reforms aimed at attracting foreign investments, creating jobs, reducing poverty, and improving living standards.

In order to enhance the country’s economic vibrancy and resilience, Edun reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to remaining a development partner with the World Bank and implementing policies.

Chaudhari described the event as symbolic and strategic, commending Nigeria’s proactive measures in economic development. He assured that the World Bank remains open to further collaborations with Nigeria.

Mrs Lydia Jafiya, The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and Mr Okokon Udo, the Permanent Secretary of Special Duties, both assured continued support for the government’s policies and invited international partners to invest in Nigeria’s diverse economy.

The minister called for action for foreign investors to join Nigeria in creating a prosperous and sustainable future.
