‘I was always at the bottom of my class, but she believed in me’ – Toke Makinwa appreciates her mother

Nollywood actress, media personality, and now entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has shared a personal experience with her mother that had a significant impact on her life.

During the launch of her fragrance line, Toke expressed her gratitude towards her mother for shaping her into the person she is today.

She revealed that she used to struggle academically and once received a severe punishment for altering her report card in an attempt to deceive her parents.

However, during times when she felt ashamed and discouraged, her mother was the only one who believed in her.

Her mother would wake her up at night, urging her to study. Now, Toke’s life has transformed, and she has gone from being a struggling student to successfully launching her own business.

“Another incident that shaped my life, I was always at the bottom of my class. There was this time we were like 52 in the class, and I came 52, and a part of me thought I was smart, and I cleaned the 5 and left the 2. I was going home to show my parents that finally, after being bottom of the class, I came second, and when they looked at the report card, they flogged me. She didn’t spare my behind because she was frustrated. I remember when I was feeling ashamed and down, this was the same woman who believed in me and would wake me in the night, telling me to read. Mummy, I know I came last in class, but today, Mummy, I launched a perfume line”.

In the presence of her mother, she witnessed her almost breaking down in tears while expressing her immense pride in her daughter. The mother deeply valued the fact that her hard work had not been in vain, attributing all the credit to God.

“I thank God my efforts were not in vain; it’s the Lord’s doing”.

Few days ago, Toke admitted to having undergone body enhancement surgery and confirmed that her derriere is not natural.

In March, Toke discussed her relationship with God and explained why she tore up her prayer request.

She realized that people who experience tragedy are not enemies of God and that God does not owe anyone anything.

Toke acknowledged that she believes in the existence of God but struggles to understand why there is so much pain in the world.

She tore up her prayer request because she believes people are too focused on what they want God to do in the future and fail to live in the present, whether it is good or bad.

Last month, Toke announced that she was looking for members to join her newly established Believers Fellowship.

She talked about her agreement with God and thanked Him for always keeping His promises to her, even when she did not fulfill her part of the deal.
