Bauchi approves contributory pension, continues minimum wage talks

Bauchi State Executive Council has approved the implementation of a contributory pension scheme for civil servants.

Yahuza Ningi, the Head of Civil Service in the state, made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting which held on Wednesday.

Ningi noted that with this development, the payee will contribute 8 percent and that credible pension administrators will be employed for the scheme aimed at addressing lingering pension and gratuity backdrop in the state.

He confirmed that negotiations for the payment of new minimum wage for the state workers are at the advanced stage, assuring workers that the state government remains committed to their welfare.

He announced that “the council has ratified the recruitment of 2000 youths who are indigenes of Bauchi State into the BAROTA Corps.

The move will address persistent issues of unemployment among youths and assist the state government in its bid to maintain law and order on the roads and other endeavours.”

Meanwhile, in another move to prevent the state owned Game Reserve from being encroached upon, the state executive council has also directed for the fencing of the Sumu Wildlife Park in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

In another development, the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, led by Commissioner Maiwada Bello, has been granted over N6 billion for constructing a permanent site for the Bauchi State Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri.

Bello added that the council also moved for the renaming of the ministry of National Resources to Ministry of Natural Resources Development. According to him, this will further reinject on the zeal and commitment to do more on exploring the state’s abundant natural resources and solid minerals.
