Govt pledges improved electricity for communities

The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, has assured residents in rural communities of better access to electricity, as it launched a rural electrification project to boost power supply in underserved areas.

According to the office, the initiative, which forms part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s effort to deliver improved infrastructure and governance to rural areas, saw the presentation of transformers to various communities in September.

A Sunday statement noted that the communities of Ojuagbe and Olowu, both in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area, were the first beneficiaries of the project, followed by the Ogombo Community in Eti-Osa LCDA and Ogo Oluwa Community in Ijalemo, Ijegun.

The office stressed that the installation of the transformers was expected to enhance the electricity supply in the areas, thus addressing long-standing issues of power shortages and unreliable electrical infrastructure.

Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, explained the strategic importance of the initiative, emphasising its goal to bridge the gap in infrastructure between urban and rural communities.

This rural electrification initiative is designed to upgrade the power supply and ensure equitable access to electricity for all communities in Lagos, regardless of their location.

It demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusive development,” Agbaje said.

The office also disclosed that communities in Badagry would be the next beneficiaries with transformers scheduled for delivery in the areas.
